Following investigations at Oliver's phosphate workings, Sections 65 and 66, Hd. Willunga (Callen, 1968), it was decided to map Wait's workings on Section 40, Hd. Noarlunga and those on Section 48 at the same stratigraphic horizon. Reconnaissance showed that phosphate rock was present to the north of the workings on Section 48, and on the south bank of the Onkaparinga near the Noarlunga limestone quarry (Wade and Wegener, 1952; Olliver, 1961; Johns, 1960). Wait's workings were while the Brighton Limestone and associated phosphorite which extend from Oliver's to beyond Wait's were mapped on 1:17000 air photographs. The mineral rights are owned by Noarlunga Meat Ltd.
