Construction of three sections of the pipeline route near the Summit Storage will involve making excavations up to 21 metres deep. These places have been explored by diamond drilling. Variably weathered claystone, siltstone, sandstone and schist of mainly the Neoproterozoic Saddleworth Formation will occur in the excavations. Most of the rocks are rippable: a few places will require blasting.
