Bedded phosphate deposits which occur principally at or near the base of the Cambrian Succession and also within sediments of the Adelaide System have been variously exploited in a number of areas from shallow quarries but utilisation has been limited because of their high iron oxide and alumina contents. It seems likely that high R203 contents relate to weathering and lateralisation of a peneplained land surface, of widespread development, during the Tertiary when the phosphate minerals were also, in part, reaggregated to derive secondary concentrations at or near the surface. To ascertain the depth of weathering effects and to simple the primary phosphorite at Fairview, situated in Section 225, Hundred Bright, 13 miles north of Robertstown, diamond drilling has recently been undertaken to probe a carbonate - phosphatic breccia-chert sequence showing surface contents ranging up to 26% P2O5.
