Preliminary investigation by air photo interpretation and drilling of 5 hand auger holes suggests that probable reserves of seed gypsum accumulated in extensive dunes amount to approximately 10 million tonnes averaging 70% CaSO4.2H2O. Crystalline gypsum, averaging 60% CaSO4.2H2O and containing over 10% alunite, occurs in playa lakes on the windward side of the dunes. Total reserves of this material are not likely to exceed 5 million tonnes.
