New sources of road metal were sought in three areas of the Council district on a basis of regional stratigraphy and structure. On the Willowie Plains, lime-cemented Telford Gravel forms an excellent road surface, and several new sources of this material have been located but require subsurface testing. Along the Survey Road siltstones of the Willochra Formation may provide additional sources. In the Telowie area, potential sources were found in dolomitic slates (Skillogalee Dolomite) at the entrance to Back Creek (Pt. Germein) Gorge and in lime-cemented gravels (Telford Gravel) and sandstones (Rhynie Sandstone) located along the face of the flinders Ranges to the south of the Gorge.
