Investigation of the subsurface condition for dredging of Wallaroo Harbor was requested from the Chief Engineer, Department of Marine and Harbors. The investigation consisted of three cable tool drill holes, two drilled in the swinging basin and one drilled about 3 miles offshore in the main channel. The bay is surrounded by rock outcrops of mainly very strong gneisses end medium strong to strong limestones. Beneath the seabed the drill holes penetrated horizontally bedded Pleistocene to Recent sediments. These consisted of shelly limestone from 14 to 56 ft. thick, cemented into hard bands and varying from a sandy gravel to a weak rock, overlying stiff clay.
