The objectives of this vertical stratigraphic drillhole were : - To determine extent of Arckaringa Basin's northern margin by ascertaining existence of Permian sediments. - To identify a high speed seismic refractor occurring from 1400-1700 feet depth, that was considered not to be basement. The drilling of Lambina 1 was terminated, due to reaching rig capacity, at a total depth of 1457 feet. The actual stratigraphic units intersected (and the depth to top of each) are as follows: Middle Tertiary : silcrete (from surface) Early Cretaceous : Bulldog Shale (20 feet), Cadna-owie Fm (521 feet) Late Jurassic : Algebuckina Sandstone (698 feet) Early Permian : Mount Toondina Fm (850 feet), dolomitic shale, clastics (Unit 2 - 1425 feet). The Permian sequence was not completely penetrated, as only 607 feet thickness was drilled through, and the targeted refractor body was not identified. However, the known edge of the Arckaringa Basin was able to be extended further northward.
