Port Willunga Beds which were penetrated beneath this site underlie ?Plio-Pleistocene Carisbrooke Sand and rest on Upper Eocene silty Blanche Point Marls. With maximum proved thickness of 26 -feet, the Beds here comprise a leached marine silt up to 12 feet thick, and an underlying marine sand/sandstone unit up to 15 1/2 feet thick. The latter has an Upper Eocene microfauna. The silt unit is largely leached of foraminifera at this locality but contains an Upper Eocene microfauna beneath Victoria Square. Both units are correlated with the earliest (Aldingan) part of the type section of Port Willunga Beds.
