Investigation of tho site for a proposed 1 million gallon capacity surface tank at Wattle Park, was initially requested by to. J.W. Murrell, Assistant Director Engineering Operations, in a letter dated 26th July, 1965, to tho Director of Mines. The site was explored by an examination of surface features and one test pit 12 ft. deep in 1966 by R.D. Steel. He recommended that before construction of the 1 million gallon tank, three additional pits should be constructed around the tank perimeter to determine if any splinter faults associated with the Eden Fault pass beneath the tank site. On the 14th April, 1971 three exploratory trenches were dug on an east-west diameter line of the proposed surface tank (Fig.1). The trenches were dug to a depth of about 8 ft. and one was 65 ft. long while the other two were 15 ft. long. The south wall of each of the trenches was logged (Fig.2).
