A site in Barunga Sandstone (Tent Hill Formation equivalent) located 2.5 miles south east of Nantawarra Siding has been selected for testing. Previous quarrying operations from this unit in the area have disclosed the presence at many sites of clay in seams and as joint fillings and also of friable sandstone bands all of which are deleterious in crushed rock. Limestone and dolomite at Kulpara and Bute are alternative sources of ballast but are not so well located for this project.
