The South Australian Department of Mines has for several years undertaken geochemical surveys in different parts of the State. Arid areas present particular problems for this kind of prospecting. Consequently, Amdel proposed undertaking a literature survey on copper, nickel, lead and zinc with particular reference to arid areas. The objective of this study was to ascertain which, if any, geochemical techniques had been used successfully in prospecting for copper, nickel, lead and zinc in arid regions. If no obviously suitable techniques were available, Amdel was asked to discuss-the advantages and disadvantages of different, methods and to! indicate fields in which further,development work might be undertaken.
