Palynological examination of available sediments from the Pirie-Torrens Basin indicate that the earliest Tertiary sedimentation did not commence until the Middle Eocene. In this respect the basin is similar to the Saint Vincent Basin, with which it may be linked. All of the sediments investigated are of non-marine aspect and range in age from Middle to Upper Eocene. They belong to the P. confragosus and T. magnificus zones. The P. pachypolus, zone is not represented, possibly due to sampling gaps. Deepening of the basin between Lake Torrens Bore 3a and Ediacara Bore is shown by the presence of younger assemblages in the latter at a comparable depth with Bore 3a. Cretaceous remanie fossils from Ediacara Bore can be derived from the north or north west.
