Investigation of foundation and excavation conditions for a 500, 000 gallon tank to be built at Salisbury Heights (Figs.1 and 2) was requested in a letter, dated 17th March, 1972, from the Director and Engineer-in-Chief of the Engineering and Water Supply Department. The tank is to be 80 ft in diameter and have a height of about 16 ft with full supply level at RL 664 ft. Investigations consisted of excavating two back hoe pits, one on the downhill side, Pit TP1, the other, Pit TP2, on the uphill side of the tank (Fig. 2). The pits were dug to depths of 6.5 ft and 8.0 ft respectively, each was geotechnically logged and the logs are included in Appendix A.
