The previously written Amdel Report no. 826 contained the results of a literature survey undertaken on behalf of the South Australian Department of Mines on geochemical techniques for prospecting for copper, lead, zinc and nickel in arid regions. The present report is an extension of this survey, and contains the results of a search of the most recently published literature on the same general topic. Material published in the past year demonstrated trends of research directed towards (a) the study of rock geochemistry and primary dispersion haloes (b) a greater use of statistical interpretations (c) the use of gas surveys to locate buried orebodies, and (d) achieving an understanding of fundamental supergene geochemical processes at the time of the conduct of a geochemical exploration survey. It is considered that all of these lines of investigation hold potential for application to South Australian mineral exploration.
