Marble, recrystallised arkosic sandstone and gneiss of the cleve Metamorphics of Lower Proterozoic age are quarried periodically for road construction aggregate, 18 kilometres west-northwest of Cowell, Eyre Peninsula. Los Angeles Abrasion and Sodium Sulphate Soundness losses on drill core samples range from 16 to 35 per cent and up to 5.1 per cent respectively and subsequent samples of quarry product returned low values. Petrographic examination of surface and drill core samples showed no deleterious minerals to be present and the material has performed satisfactorily in service as sealing aggregate. Large additional reserves are available.
