Apcel Pty Ltd. have investigated a number of disposal sites for paper industry waste in the general vicinity of their Snuggery plant. The quarry in volcanic ash and associated volcanics at Mount Watch is one such site. Although the nature, volume, concentration and point of entry to the groundwater body of the potential contaminants remains ill defined, the probable hazard to groundwater from leachates derived by percolation of rainwater through the wastes exists. If no other disposal method (or utilisation) of the material can be found the precautions specified should be observed.
