Reconnaissance auger drilling for construction sand to supply the proposed new city of Monarto was carried out in the Tepko-Mannum and Hartley-Monarto South areas in 1974 The programme consisted of 79 holes 0.6m to15m deep for a total of 451m. Grain size analyses and petrographic examinations showed the sand to be suitable for construction purposes.
