This report is a qualitative interpretation of the contoured data from a detailed aeromagnetic survey, flown in 1970 for Kenecott Explorations (Australia) Pty Ltd and Otter Exploration NL in the Mulgathing area, which is located in the north-western portion of the TARCOOLA 1:250 000 mapsheet area. This investigation was undertaken to assist with geological mapping of magnetic lithological horizons, besides defining regional structures and locating areas of interest for further geophysical and geochemical investigations. The described magnetic zones and trends indicate major fold structures correlating with possible banded iron formations, and delineate two major fracture directions oriented northeast-southwest and northwest-southeast. Particular areas of possible intrusive granites, and of shallow recent basins, are also outlined.
