The basalt quarry on the western flanks of Mt Schank was mapped in detail to determine the reserves and suitability of the rock for the construction of a breakwater at Port MacDonnel. Brief logs of fifteen drill holes were provided by the operator. Estimates made of the total tonnage and of the sizes of available individual blocks indicate that sufficient material of various sizes may be obtained from the quarry. Physical tests carried out on selected samples indicate that the material is suitable for breakwater construction.
