A 203 mm diameter bore was drilled to a depth of 179 m in Section 565, Hundred of Mount Muirhead to augment the Millicent town water supply. The average pumping rate during the main 72 hour test was 46.3 litres/sec. with a maximum drawdown of 16.60 m. A Transmissivity of 560 m3/day/m was calculated for the Gambier Limestone aquifer. Salinities averaged 920 mg/1 but dissolved hydrogen sulphide necessitates treatment before reticulation of the supply. The recommended depth for pump installation is 25 m where the long term maximum safe yield is 53 litres/sec. The equation relating drawdown to pumping rate and time was calculated as: St = (4.112 + 0.463 log t ) Q The feasibility of deepening the bore to the Knight Group confined aquifer should be investigated if the removal of hydrogen sulphide is considered too expensive and troublesome.
