Maslin Beach is the only major sand producing area south of Adelaide. Since the start of mining in 1928 to the end of 1974, 10.5M tonnes of construction sand have been produced. A total of 36.5M tonnes of washed sand has been proved by drilling. Geological extrapolation into areas as yet untested by drilling to bedrock suggests that the Extractive Industry Zone contains 184M tonnes of washed sands, with a further 126M tonnes south of the Zone. Ten exploration holes totalling 970m are required to confirm the geological assumptions.
