The proposed workshop site is underlain by at least 30 m of stiff clay and sand of the Pooraka and Hindmarsh Clay Formations. A surface layer, up to 0.80 m thick, of fill (mostly boiler ash and cinders) overlies the clay. An allowable bearing capacity of 2-3 tons/ft2 (200-300 kPa) has been estimated for both sand and clay, at a depth of 0.80 to 1.00 m. Depth to groundwater at the time of the survey was found to be about 3 m.
