This Department received a request from the E. & W.S. to drill a replacement hole for their No. 1 well at Melrose, known as Dickson's Bore which-had partially failed. Failure was caused by sand entry into the hole and subsequent pump damage. Poor completion practice within the partially to unconsolidated aquifer was responsible. Specifications were drawn up from knowledge gained during the drilling of Well No. 3 located within section 319 hundred of Gregory. See Freeman (1970) for details of this well and Fig.2 for its location. The replacement well was drilled within 10 m of Dickson's Bore Section 319, hundred of Gregory between 7th June and 25th July, 1974. Discharge testing was carried out between 8th and 11th August, 1974. This report summarises the drilling, development and subsequent discharge testing of Well No. 4.
