Mapping near the Spalding Inlier and to the south indicates that a quartzitic sequence between the River Wakefield Group (now termed Subgroup) and Skillogalee Dolomite was wrongly identified as Rhynie Sandstone and should now be re-named. The term Bungaree Quartzite is applied to this unit, which is 500m thick in its type section, 7km west south west of Spalding. It is composed of fine to coarse grained quartzite (arkose) siltstone and dolomite rock probably representing rapidly fluctuating conditions in a shallow water environment.
