A geological and geophysical investigation was carried out at a proposed site for hospital extensions to check foundation conditions. Interpreted depth to weathered bedrock ranged from 2 to 3 m along two seismic lines. The fill material above bedrock was of highly weathered rock and clay and had a low seismic velocity (730 m/s) and would be easily removed by ripping with a heavy duty tractor. Bedrock with a velocity between 1500-2000 m/s consists of highly to moderately weathered metasandstone. The highly weathered rock should prove rippable, but deeper material may be unrippable
