Discharge tests carried out on the caisson show that the supply is restricted by difficult entry conditions which are enhanced by the low water table. The transmissivity of the aeolianite aquifer is estimated at 1 000 m"/day/m. A pumping rate of 700 m /day should maintain the water level in the caisson above the automatic cut-off point for one pumping shift. Future discharge tests are recommended to determine the long term yield and the existence of adverse hydrogeological boundaries. A proposed drilling programme is designed to delineate the vertical and areal extent of the fresh groundwater.
