Naracoorte town water supply can be increased by drilling additional production wells to the confined Knight Group sand aquifer which occurs at a depth of about 150 m below the town. D-rawdown interference from nearby production wells is expected to be less than a few metres. Hydrogeological conditions appear reasonably uniform beneath Naracoorte and additional well sites can be selected to suit the distribution network. It has been noted that several wells now have diminished supply, apparently as a result of either aquifer collapse, corrosion or entrance of sand into the well. It is recommended that these be abandoned as new wells are brought into production and retained for water level observation in the confined aquifer, as there is little history of monitoring within the well field. Production well water quality data and leakage considerations indicate that no significant changes to long term quality have arisen or are likely to arise. The most recent production test carried out on Well No. 9 suffered from interference by nearby production wells. A maximum theoretical safe yield of 3 000 m^/day has been calculated for this well from considerations of screen dimensions and maximum entrance velocity.
