A water well was drilled on Section 512, Hundred of Onkaparinga to provide a groundwater supply for irrigation of the Mt. Lofty Botanic Gardens. The well was rotary drilled to a depth of 47.5 metres, and a good supply of excellent quality groundwater was obtained from fractured slates and (?) Aldgate Sandstone. Production testing of the well has shown that the well could be pumped at 2 180 m3/day for periods of up to 24 hours. A lower pumping rate of 1 100 m3/day, however, is recommended. The performance of the well should be observed to determine whether a higher pumping rate could be used.
