A total of 56 potential sites selected by the State Planning Office have been evaluated for any geological constraints that could affect development. Each site was visited with a standard checklist covering items such as natural drainage, excavation conditions, slope stability, foundation conditions and presence of useful construction materials and geological monuments. Several clearly defined geological environments have been recognised and have been used as the basis for classification as to the suitability of each site. Only 6 sites are considered unsuitable, a further 15 to be marginal, and the remainder geologically suitable for the proposed development.
