Semi quantitative spectroscopy on samples from the Mount Howden Mine gave anomalous results. The best recording was 35cm of greater than 1% Zn, greater than 1% Pb and 10ppm Ag. An interval (10m thick) of above background copper, silver, lead, Zinc, cobalt and molybdenum is directly related to a pyritic marble horizon. Petrographic examination suggests a possible tuffaceous origin for some of the rocks examined. The calc-silicate, chiastolite schist and pyritic marble assemblage is a possible correlative of similar units which occur at Ethiudna, Walparuta and elsewhere within the Olary Province. The stratigraphic interval exposed at Mount Howden is favourable for further base metal exploration. Mount Isa style mineralisation is suggested as a working model for the Model Howden area and other localities within the Willyama Complex.
