Drilling of one cable tool hole has confirmed the conditions encountered in a previous excavation: horizontal Quaternary sediments approximately 15m thick overlying Tertiary Gambier Limestone. Suitable bearing horizons occur at 4m below ground surface in dense sand, or at 1.8m depth at the top of a stiff fissured clay which has a safe bearing capacity of 200 kPa based on laboratory tests. Groundwater was struck at 7m.
