At the request of the Highways Department, a shallow refraction seismic survey was carried out near Delamere to test the rippability of the material to be removed. The material to be excavated consists of marble with varying degrees of fracturing due to previous excavation and weathering. The department has no recorded experience of rippability velocities of marble and recommends that results of any rippability tests be forwarded to the department for inclusion in future rippability charts.
