Twenty four water wells were drilled, and three existing water wells cleaned out, in the North-West Aboriginal Reserves during 1978. Sixteen of the new wells were successful in obtaining a groundwater supply suitable for their specified use, which was predominantly domestic supply. One well, drilled near the Warburton/Giles ? Jameson track intersection, has a very high nitrate content, and the water should not be drunk by children under 3 years of age. An improvement of the drilling results and a subsequent saving in cost could be achieved if sites which are unfavourable hydrogeologically were not drilled.
