Approximately eighty water wells were located on the CALLABONNA sheet area. The purpose of the survey was to obtain all relevant information for, sample the groundwater from and photograph the headworks of all flowing wells. Groundwater is obtained from unconsolidated Quaternary and Tertiary sediments, from sandstones of the late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous age Mooga Formation, and from Lower Proterozoic quartzites. Well yields from all aquifers range from 5 m3/day to 6000 m3/day, and eleven flowing wells were located. Because of high salinities (1000 mg/1 to 50,000 mg/1) well usage is governed by stock tolerances. There are not considered to be any problems of pollution of the groundwater.
