Foundation testing for a building project at Robe aimed at strengthening the existing slipway has shown the presence of medium strength Bridgewater Formation limestone at a depth of less than 2 m, which should provide an adequate bearing horizon for the structure. However, the drilling intersected a number of solution cavities which might cause localised weakening of the rock mass. The use of steel foundation piles driven to refusal is suggested.
