Australia is renowned for its eucalypts, which are the outstanding group of Leptospermeae (subfamily Leptospermoideae of Myrtaceae) and of the whole Australian flora. There are over 500 species of eucalypts, nearly all restricted to Australia. They range from shrubs to some of the world?s tallest trees, and are dominant species in a great range of habitats, excepting arid zones and rainforests.
