Six wells exploiting the lower (confined) portion of the Gambier Limestone aquifer currently provide groundwater for Millicent?s reticulated water supply. Four of the six wells could be substantially upgraded in well yield by equipping them with larger capacity pumps placed at a greater intake depth, after carrying out production tests to determine optimum pumping rates. If further water well drilling is required in the medium to short term, creation of a well field tapping the lower portion of the Gambier Limestone aquifer is recommended. Drilling into the Dilwyn Formation confined aquifer is not warranted until known pollution parameters within the Gambier Limestone aquifer begin to rise significantly; it is also likely that the water from this deeper aquifer would require treatment for iron removal.
