Quartzite and sandstone of the Stonyfell Quartzite formation of the Burra Group are quarried by Quarry Industries Ltd at Eagle Quarry, located in the Adelaide Hills less than 10 km from the Adelaide GPO. The deposit is fault bounded to the west and north-west, and the quarried strata dip gently by 15 to 30° in a south-easterly to southerly direction. The inferred geological reserves for the quarry, which is bounded by gullies and is being developed with a 40° slope batter, will total 18.6 million tonnes if stone is extracted down to the 340 m elevation level for the floor of the quarry.
