Six holes totalling 659 m were drilled at four locations on the Bookaloo - Mount Gunson section of the Stuart Highway. Supplies of construction quality groundwater were obtained at three of the locations. There is some evidence to suggest that the optimum depth for water wells in this environment is of the order of 150 m.
