The 170 m deep E&WS Seaford Sewerage Treatment Bore passed through a Cainozoic succession comprised of undifferentiated Quaternary and Oligocene, and Eocene Port Willunga Formation, Chinaman Gully Formation, Blanche Point Formation, Tortachilla Limestone and Maslin Sands. The hole sequence is regarded as a good representative stratigraphic section on the eastern side of the St Vincent Basin. It is of special local interest as it is the thickest known section in the Noarlunga Embayment of the basin, as well as being in close proximity to the Noarlunga coal deposit.
