RB 79/00121 Uranno microgranite deposit for road sealing aggregate and rail ballast.

A quarry plan, designed to yield 100,000 cubic m of in-situ material, has been outlined in a microgranite outcrop on Eyre Peninsula which is located 15 km east of Cummins and 10 km south-east of the Uranno railway siding. Diamond drilling (3 inclined holes totalling 67.3 m) and laboratory testing of cored fresh rock samples have shown that the material will be suitable for use as sealing aggregate and rail ballast, since it has L.A. abrasion test losses of 18-21%. Narrow zones of poor quality weathered rock occurring adjacent to some joints are a minor constituent which should be easily scalped out. Large reserves of additional material exist to the south and west of the area outlined.
