Aggregate for sealing the Stuart Highway will be required to be sourced from three main areas (localities a-c below) in addition to the existing quarry at Woocalla. Within these areas eleven potential sites have been nominated, from which three or more will be chosen - a) at Kingoonya: One site in porphyritic rhyolite. b) at Fitzgerald Dam - Mount Penrhyn: Five sites (one in gneissic granite, four in granulite). c) at Mount Johns - Granite Downs: Five sites (two in dolomitic siltstone, three in dolerite dyke). The Highways Department should take steps to ensure access is maintained to all these sites until final selections can be made following detailed investigation.
