Between February and July 1979, six deep regional investigation holes and thirteen shallow local investigation holes were drilled in the Upper Murraylands area of South Australia. ATS values range from 7000 to 25,000 mg/1 within the Morgan/Mannum Formations confined/unconfined aquifer, and from 19,000 to 22,500 mg/1 within the Renmark Group confined aquifer. Between Locks 2 and 3, the groundwater table gradient towards the river varies from 2 m/km to 0.8 mm/km. In areas where lithological sampling is critical, future programmes should utilize push tube or rotary core drilling.
