An examination of basal Eromanga Basin sequences in the Oodnadatta, Marree and Moolawatana areas supports the established stratigraphy in each case. A regional disconformity between Jurassic and Cretaceous sequences, marked sporadically by silcrete development, occurs in the Oodnadatta and Marree areas. Observations made on this excursion also support regional correlations proposed by Wopfner, Freytag and Heath (1970). New data collected indicate a weathering event and associated weathered profile development at the close of Jurassic sedimentation. The Jurassic sequence is characterised by the presence of kaolin, at least on the margins of the basin, whereas the Cretaceous sequence is commonly ferruginous.
