Investigations aimed to determine if leachate from the municipal dump is likely to reach the water table and travel toward the Blue Lake - Mount Gambiers water supply 1 km to the east. Network of observation wells were established to monitor the regional groundwater gradient, permeability testing of the volcanic deposits which underlie the site and chemical analyses of cores to detect the current level of subsurface contamination.
