Drilling of 6 scout holes to maximum depth of 152 metres investigated a faulted syncline 5 km SE of the township. Yields were too low or salinity too high to provide a useful supply. Further drilling should be concentrated 11 km NW of Hawker where fresher supplies of groundwater were located during 1978 drilling. Lower salinity groundwater in the Palmer Creek area 9.5 km SW of the township is also possible.
