Results of a seismic refraction and gravity survey conducted in the southern portion of the Walloway Basin suggest that its western margin is influenced by faulting. The survey has also indicated the position of a fault which controls groundwater movement within the basin. Five seismic horizons can be recognised within the basin, three of which can be correlated with aquifers. In addition, two types of Precambrian bedrock can be identified beneath the basin fill, which has a maximum thickness of over 300 m.
