The Kalinjala Mylonite Zone (new name) is a major linear zone of intense ductile deformation extending the length of eastern Eyre Peninsula, from Sleaford Bay in the south, to west of the Middleback Ranges in the north. It was formed nearing the end of the Kimban Orogeny, a major period of multiple deformation, metamorphism and plutonism which occurred during the Middle Proterozoic (ca 1810-1580 Ma) and, specifically, is associated with a number of other lesser mylonite zones with intervening fold domains that form a broad north to north-east trending fold belt or mobile zone.
