3 of 6 wells were drilled along a water course 5 km west of Yunta, obtaining supplies of over 30 kl/day from a fractured rock aquifer but salinity ranged from 3 500 mg/l to 4 800 mg/l. Discharge testing of the best well showed a strip-aquifer type response with drawdown rapidly increasing with time. This suggests little or no change in salinity with depth, and that significantly high permeability is restricted to within 30 metres of the surface. Further drilling is unlikely to reveal any better quality groundwater close to the township, but reserves should be adequate to provide feedwater for a desalination plant.
