Survey to SA foundries, indicates large reduction in activity since survey in 1966. The main source of metropolitan foundry sand is Sandy Creek, with additional material from Stow, Reeves Plain, Tailem Bend, Normanville, Pedlar Creek and Nalpa. These deposits, mainly Recent dune sand, are sufficient to supply the foundry industry for a considerable time. Potentially large reserves of glass sand were encountered in drilling near Sandy Creek and Mount Compass.
